…FUNNEL CLOUDS POSSIBLE TODAY…

Generally funnel clouds develop and occur in conjunction with
conditions that produce severe thunderstorms. A different set of
conditions prevails across Central Indiana today. There is little
potential for severe thunderstorms.

This afternoon…reported funnel clouds have been associated with
thunderstorms or showers that interact with an existing boundary
or intersecting boundaries. The parent storm or shower is not
particularly tall or intense. These funnel clouds normally
protrude downward from the parent cloud…rotate or spin like a
top…and last only a few minutes before dissipating.

In rare cases when their circulations do reach the ground…they
generally cause minor damage. More reports of small funnel clouds
are possible over Central Indiana today. Warnings will be issued
if any of them touch the ground.

…BRIEF FUNNEL CLOUDS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING…

A few reports of funnel clouds have been received from central
Illinois into central Indiana this afternoon and early evening.
These funnels have been small and very short in duration, and have
not touched down.

Conditions are such that localized areas of convergence may
promote development of these weak circulations within showers or
thunderstorms. These funnels are highly unlikely to touch down,
although in rare cases this has occurred. If this does occur,
move immediately to a sturdy shelter.

Please report any observed funnel clouds to NWS Indianapolis.
